With more than 70% of the prison population having some kind of mental health problem, it’s crucial that specialist services exist to ensure that people get the care and support they need to break the cycle of offending.  This is where you come in. 

If you are an enthusiastic, motivated, mental health practitioner, we have an exciting opportunity for you as a Liaison and Diversion Practitioner. 

This role can act as a placement for the BPS Qualification in Forensic Psychology (stage 2). Together for Mental Wellbeing will provide you with an internal supervisor, as well as offering study days, support, training and clinical group supervision. We have had numerous employees undertake the stage 2 or Doctorate route whilst at Together, and would like to continue to support Forensic Psychologists in their journey to chartership.

You will be part of a dedicated and dynamic team with a specific focus on delivering tailored on the day support, in the form of brief interventions to individuals in the court setting. 

Key tasks in the role are:

  • Conducting mental state examinations
  • Liaison with professionals to gather collateral information
  • Writing robust formulations and risk management plans
  • Being involved in arranging assessments under the Mental Health Act 1983
  • Providing information on presenting risk and need to the judiciary in the format of a court report which can inform sentencing decisions
  • Making onwards health and social care referrals, including prison inreach
  • Delivering information sessions and consultation to professionals
  • Continued professional development through research, training, Clinical supervision and reflective practice

About you

The ideal candidate would be someone who is a registered health care practitioner.  Previous experience working in allied health roles such as Mental Health Nursing; Psychology, Social Work and Occupational Therapy will be beneficial to applications. We welcome applications from those working towards HCPC registration. 

The right candidate will be compassionate, empathetic, and able to create trust and psychologically safety with the people who use our service.  They will have robust clinical skills and knowledge of relevant mental health legislation.  They will use professional curiosity to elicit and formulate information required to produce excellent quality reports used in court, to advocate for improved health and justice outcomes.

Our team provide a range of services within the Criminal Justice Mental Health Services pathway including Liaison and Diversion in Court Settings, Early Identification & Prevention and Peer Support.  We are extremely proud of the care we provide and our people.
