We are looking for an experienced practitioner psychologist or accredited CBT therapist with an interest in teaching and training health professionals in diabetes focussed CBT (D-CBT). The successful candidate will take the lead in the production, planning, teaching, evaluating and accreditation processes of a new D-CBT. The programme will consist of two modules (in total 30 credits) and emphasises evidence-based and reflective practice. The post is primarily teaching and would be an excellent opportunity for clinical and academic staff seeking to widen their role. The post will be in partnership with and supported by the Diabetes, Endocrinology and Obesity Institute and the King’s Learning Academy King’s Health Partners (KHP). KHP is an academic health sciences centre aiming to bring together research, education, and clinical practice. The postholder will lead on the production, teaching and accreditation processes of a new D-CBT course. They will collaborate with existing members of the course team who have extensive academic and clinical experience in diabetes and associated mental health conditions.

The course aims to develop CBT skills amongst clinicians (including doctors, nurses and dieticians) who provide diabetes education and care to patients. Specific areas of this include ensuring patient safety around diabetes self-management, adjusting insulin doses and monitoring acute diabetes complications (e.g. hypoglycaemia) while also delivering CBT informed care. The course is intended to help develop skills in delivering basic CBT to support people to have more effective self-management of type 1 and 2 diabetes for patients aged 16 and up.
