Do you have a background in physiology? Are you passionate about applying your expertise in real world settings? Do you care about delivering high impact research which makes a difference? If so, the Human Science Group want to hear from you!

At the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl), we harness science and technology to protect our nation – bringing together the best people with the best ideas, and applying them in unexpected ways.

UK defence and security personnel are exposed to a multitude of stressors during training and operations and effective performance is central to mission success. We, within Dstl’s human physical performance team, aim to support these individuals through the delivery of innovative and impactful research designed to protect, sustain and enhance their health, survivability and performance.
As applied human scientists, we conduct research, lab and field-based assessments in order to characterise these challenges and provide bespoke solutions for the protection and improved performance of our Defence and Security personnel.

In addition to responding to today’s challenges, the Human Performance team also conduct innovative research that is designed to exploit in the generation after next. This research is focussed on optimising health and performance as well as enabling our defence and security personnel to perform beyond their biological potential.

The human performance team harnesses a range of disciplines including; physiology, biomechanics, human factors and data analytics and draws on complementary disciplines such as psychology, neuroscience, biology, pharmacology and operational analysis. Our team collaborate with industry, academia and international partners to deliver evidence-based advice and guidance to our customers and stakeholders.

We are seeking candidates who are self-motivated, with an interest in developing their expertise in occupational research, specifically Defence and Security, to join our Human Physical Performance team as a physiologist. If you have an analytical mind, a desire to learn and develop, and thrive on collaborating as part of interdisciplinary teams, we want to hear from you.
