Overview:

Do you have an interest in working more holistically? This role will give you the freedom and flexibility to approach pain management with creative strategies that consider the holistic well-being of the individual, focusing on integrating interventions for the body, breath and mind. The post offers an exciting opportunity to work alongside physiotherapists with patients with complex pain presentations from an holistic, bio-psycho-social perspective.

If you're passionate about improving the lives of people living with chronic pain, this Clinical Psychologist role offers a stimulating and impactful opportunity. You'll be at the heart of the pain management service, providing specialist assessments, developing personalised treatment plans, and implementing psychological interventions for individuals and groups. From in-depth assessments and risk management to collaboration with diverse teams and research initiatives, you'll experience the full spectrum of clinical psychology in a supportive and dynamic environment.

If you thrive on complex problem-solving, enjoy building effective relationships, and are dedicated to evidence-based practice, this role could be your perfect fit.

More about the role:

From day one, you will be actively involved in ongoing projects within the service. This includes conducting audits on fibromyalgia, anxiety, and depression in patients referred to the MSK service. Additionally, you will contribute to the development of protocols and pathways, as well as introducing psychological interventions within group and individual contexts.

As part of our collaborative approach, all initial assessments are conducted jointly, and the pain management group program is co-facilitated. A weekly business meeting is held for service development discussions, while informal case discussions are encouraged. With excellent admin support for diary management and allocated time for clinical admin and supervision, you will have a supportive environment to thrive in.

This role is part time (22.5 hours a week), working Monday, Wednesday and Thursdays from 9am to 5pm.

Who is this role for?

This post would be suitable for a Senior Psychologist who is interested in working more holistically and making connections between mind and body e.g. how pain can often be linked to emotional pain, or other stresses in an individual’s life. Traditionally, psychologists often work 'with the head' by providing 'talking' therapies. This post enables you to think more creatively about working with the whole body - and tailor interventions to work with the body, the breath and the mind.

You’ll also be adept at engaging patients dealing with complex pain issues. Your innate curiosity in unravelling the intricate links between mind and body will be invaluable. Moreover, your ability to formulate presenting difficulties within a bio-psycho-social framework, coupled with a solid understanding of CBT and third-wave therapies including ACT and mindfulness, will be key assets in this role.

What we can offer you:

  • A commitment to your training and development to further develop your career.
  • An interesting and diverse caseload as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Opportunities to link with a network of psychologists working in the field
  • Opportunities to engage in audit and evaluation
  • Support career development through initiating service development, in line with your special interests

Staff benefits:

  • 27 - 33 days holiday (dependant on service) + bank holidays
  • Over 4,000 discounts at high-street retailers on the Blue Light Card
  • Free or subsidised classes are available for staff at different sites to help you stay happy and healthy at work. Classes include yoga, mindfulness, tai chi, fitness and pilates.
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • And more.
