8a Clinical / Counselling Psychologist
Salary £45,743 per annum
Full-time 37 hours per week
Second Step is a leading mental health charity in the South West offering housing, support and hope to thousands of people with mental health and other problems. We promote mental health and wellbeing by supporting people and communities to build brighter futures.
Second Step is a proud member of Open Mental Health, an alliance of voluntary organisations and the NHS in Somerset. The organisations work together to ensure that adults in Somerset get the mental health support they need, when it's needed. By working as a partnership, we can ensure that there is 'no wrong door' for anyone who needs help.
The Family Safeguarding Team is an innovative partnership model between Somerset County Council and a network of voluntary sector organisations. The wider Family Safeguarding Team is comprised of substance misuse, domestic abuse, adult mental health workers and children’s social workers. Workers from specialist organisations join together to form one team working with families. The Family Safeguarding Team focuses on working to develop parents’ strengths to positively change their behaviour and relationships in order to improve their children’s lives. By assisting parents to make positive changes more children can stay at home with their birth family and thrive, not just survive.
This 8a Psychologist role is positioned within a new aspect of the service that focuses on the mental health of parents. This is a pioneering role with the opportunity to lead on the creation of psychologically and trauma informed environments and practice in the context of family safeguarding.
At Second Step we value relationships and making sense of what has happened to those coming into contact with our services, rather than thinking about what is wrong with them. We advocate for system change that facilitates working with socially contextualised presentations of distress.
As well as joining the Family Safeguarding Teams in Somerset you will also become part of an existing ‘Psychological, Adversity and Trauma Informed’ Practice Team leading on system change across Second Step and beyond.
If you are an experienced as a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist who is passionate about improving services for parents who may have multiple and complex needs and be in contact with Family Safeguarding Teams this could be the next exciting opportunity for you.
