Second Step is a leading mental health charity in the South West offering housing, support and hope to thousands of people with mental health and other problems. We promote mental health and wellbeing by supporting people and communities to build brighter futures.
The Family Safeguarding Team is an innovative partnership model between Somerset County Council and a network of voluntary sector organisations known as Open Mental Health. This Practitioner Psychologist role is positioned within a new aspect of the Family Safeguarding Service that focuses on the systemic impact to the family of the mental health of parents. This is a pioneering role with the opportunity to lead on the development of an integrated Psychological, Adversity and Trauma informed approach to supporting parents within the Family Safeguarding Service and the wider system.
At Second Step we value relationships and making sense of what has happened to those coming into contact with our services, rather than thinking about what is wrong with them. We advocate for system change that facilitates working with socially contextualised presentations of distress.
As well as joining the Family Safeguarding Teams in Somerset you will also become part of an existing ‘Psychological, Adversity and Trauma Informed’ Practice Team leading on system change across Second Step and beyond.
If you are experienced as a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist who is passionate about improving services for parents who may have multiple and complex needs and are in contact with Family Safeguarding Teams this could be the next exciting opportunity for you.
