Combat Stress is the UK’s leading veterans’ mental health charity. For a century we have helped former servicemen and women deal with issues like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety and depression, helping them tackle the past and take on the future. Last year we handled over 15,000 calls through our Helpline and supported more than 3,000 veterans with their mental health.
We are embarking upon a period of transformation and as part of this we are seeking a new Clinical Leadership & Research Director to join our Board and play a large and influential role in how we move forward as an organisation. The post holder will provide executive clinical leadership on behalf of the Board, lead the design and governance of a trauma informed whole services delivery model ensuring that we continue to develop and deliver innovative, high-quality and future fitting services in partnership with veterans. S/he will also be expected to build on our positive staff culture by championing our values and by collaborating with colleagues and external partners, nationally and internationally.
Such a high profile and influential role requires an outstanding, values-driven and inspirational leader; who can bring intellect and emotional intelligence to leading complex services. The ideal candidate will have experience of working in trauma services and have a mental health clinical background, preferably as a Consultant Psychiatrist or Consultant Psychologist. S/he will have a strategic mindset, experience of keeping staff motivated and engaged through significant change and be comfortable working across organisational boundaries. S/he will also have an excellent track record in Clinical Governance and leadership and the capacity to empower our highly capable staff to innovate, drive sustainable change and deliver continuous improvement, all while continuing to provide excellence in care.
