Kingwood Chambers is a company offering expert medico-legal assessments in paediatric neuropsychology for the courts. The expert witnesses are two leading international consultants in the field of paediatric neuropsychology, Professor Peter Rankin and Professor Jane Hood.
Professor Hood is well known for promoting the role of Educational Psychologists in the specialist field of Paediatric Neuropsychology. Professor Hood was awarded the UK’s first ever ‘Consultant Neuropsychologist’ post as an educational psychologist in the NHS at Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospitals and has been associated with the hospital since 1999. Professor Hood has developed a specialised module on paediatric neuropsychology for the UCL Educational and Child Psychology Doctorate programme. She specialises in applying neuropsychological models to children’s learning and behavioural needs in a functional context.
Professor Peter Rankin has an international reputation as a leading clinical paediatric neuropsychologist and has been attached to Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Trust and the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health for over 20 years. Professor Rankin developed the post-doctoral paediatric neuropsychology training programme at UCL which is accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) and completion of the course is a professional requirement for all educational and clinical psychologists who wish to gain BPS registration as a paediatric neuropsychologist.
We are looking for qualified HCPC registered clinical or educational psychologists who are highly motivated to gain experience undertaking closely supervised work within the specialist field of paediatric neuropsychology at Kingwood Chambers. Our team currently consists of assistant psychologists, a senior educational psychologist and the expert witness consultant neuropsychologists with backgrounds in educational, clinical and neuropsychology. As the expert witnesses, Professor Hood and Professor Rankin, are professionally responsible to the courts for all work undertaken in Kingwood Chambers. Staff members support the expert witnesses work but are not appointed as expert witnesses so do not undertake take medico-legal responsibility for the cases or undergo cross-examination in court.
All staff members are based in Kingwood Chambers offices near Henley on Thames , RG9 4QG, where all team meetings, supervision, case presentations, lectures and administration take place. Some neuropsychological assessments are also conducted in the clinic rooms at Kingwood Chambers, however most assessments are conducted in schools around the UK. We see infants to young adults with acquired neuropsychological and neurodevelopmental disorders and assess their cognitive, behavioural, emotional and social presentations. As a result of clinical negligence or personal injury, the young people have suffered a wide range of index events, such as birth injuries, kernicterus, carbon monoxide poisoning, hypoglycaemia, hydrocephalus, traumatic brain injury, etc. During all assessments you will accompany and assist the work of a consultant paediatric neuropsychologist. You will also have the opportunity to develop research and rehabilitation interests.
