Doing What Counts and Measuring What Matters project?

Islington’s Doing What Counts and Measuring What Matters project is working towards building a gold standard service for children and families in Islington. Islington have listened to children and families, social workers and other professionals to develop a vision for change. One part of this change is the development of an intensive multi-agency service to enhance assessments and interventions with families. This service is for a small amount of families where the risks to children are high and needs are so complex that there is a likelihood of the children coming into care if significant improvement is not achieved. This service joins statutory social workers as an intensive multi-agency team, to enhance their social work assessment and intervention.

Over the last 8 years Islington has developed two highly regarded and successful multi-agency teams with staff from Social Care, Children’s and Adults Mental Health, and Education. These established teams, PICT, AMASS and IFIT, have a significant local evidence base of positive outcomes for families. They have developed best practice models and skills development in the teams. The Enhanced Service is integrated alongside these existing multi-agency teams.

Islington Children’s Social Care is looking to recruit a Senior Clinical Psychologist to work within the Enhanced Service.

They will provide specialist intensive outreach services to children, young people and their families where they have complex and multiple practical, psychological and social needs including serious social, emotional and behavioural problems.
The service is made up of Specialist Family Support Practitioners, CAMHS Clinical Psychologists and Adult Mental Health Workers (Psychiatry, Clinical Psychology, Substance Misuse) brought together under one management structure with shared multi-agency resources. The main role is:

• Assessment of mental health and or cognitive difficulties in parents/carers
• Assessment of parenting capacity and motivation for change in families with children subject to Child Protection Plans, in pre proceedings and within the Public Law Outline.
• Joint working with colleagues from Children’s Social Care, Adult Services, Education and CAMHS
• Brief intervention work with Parents/Carers in families homes and community settings
• Case Supervision of staff members
• Delivering Psychologically Informed Consultation and Training (PICT) to non-health colleagues.
• Contributing to Court reports and presenting in court if required.

Applicants require extensive previous experience of working with parents with complex mental health presentations and multiple needs. Experience working with children and families is also a requirement of the role. We are looking for someone who can work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team. Experience of working within a legal context is advantageous, as is experience of the best evidence approach to assessment and report writing.

You will be joining an experienced and motivated team and will be required to work flexibly, independently and responsively within a fast paced environment. The post will be directly supervised by a CAMHS Clinical Manager, and linked to managers in CANDI. We offer a stimulating and highly supportive working environment. It is a requirement of the role to be located within the Enhanced Service in Islington Children’s Social Care at 222 Upper Street, N1.

We are looking to recruit a full time post until March 2017 (35 hours per week), and are able to consider a minimum of 28 hours. The post holder will be employed under Limited Company Contract Arrangements where payment for services provided will be facilitated by Comensura, who act as the Council’s managed service provider for interim staff. Alternatively, if you are registered to an Agency, your agency can submit your CV via Comensura, where an open assignment is currently in place.

If you are interested and think you have the pre-requisite skills and experience, please send your updated CV to ensure your contact telephone number is included on your CV.

We encourage applications from all sections of the community and are committed to equal opportunities.

You must be HCPC registered and we conduct a full criminal records check on all successful candidates.
