This is an exciting opportunity for Clinical Psychologists to join the Family Assessment Specialist Team or the 0-12 Looked After Team in Dorset.
Family Assessment Specialist Team (FAST)
The Family Assessment Specialist Team is responsible for undertaking holistic parenting and family risk assessments, including assessments with respect to sexually harmful behaviour within Children’s Services Dorset County Council (CSDCC).
CSDCC are looking to recruit a permanent full time Adult Psychologist to join a team of experienced and committed Advanced Social Worker practitioners and Family Workers. FAST is responsible for undertaking holistic parenting, family risk assessments with the parents of children known to Dorset County Council Children’s Services and Sexually Harmful Behaviour assessments with children and their parents. These assessments frequently form part of Care Proceedings and attendance at Court is likely.
The team collaborates with colleagues across Children’s Services and with other professionals from numerous disciplines, such as health visitors, Community Drugs and Alcohol Services, Mental Health teams, adult services specifically in relation to Adult Learning Difficulties, to ensure that holistic and robust assessments are completed with respect to the parent’s capacity to change and consistently and safely meet the needs of their children.
You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, which will in time have a health professional and substance misuse worker as part of the team. FAST adopt a whole family approach to assessment and intervention and a psychological perspective will contribute to informed decisions for children.
As well as assessing parents, the psychologist will offer advice to colleagues, such as Family Workers and Advanced Social Work Practitioners with respect to the parents’ capacity to change and whether children should be placed together or apart. The contribution of Research to inform decisions and practice will be central to the role. You will be supported with your own professional development and have the opportunity for clinical supervision.
FAST is a new service within Dorset County Council Children’s Services and was formed in September 2016 as part of the restructure. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of FAST and how services are delivered to parents and children within this context.

0-12 Looked After Team
We are looking to recruit a permanent full time Child Psychologist to join a team of experienced and committed social workers and family workers.
The 0-12 Care and Support team is responsible for Looked After Children in Dorset and works with colleagues across Children’s Services to ensure that children are placed permanently with the minimum of delay.
You will work as part of a team around the child, including the child’s carers, to ensure that the child’s emotional and mental health needs are met. As well as assessing children’s psychological needs, you will also give advice to social workers on permanence plans including whether children should be placed with siblings. You will be supported with your own professional development and also involved with the development of others in the team during training and team meetings.
The 0-12 Care and Support Team was formed in 2016 following the restructure of Children’s Services – this is a new post and you will have the opportunity to develop the role and contribute to the progress of the service as a whole. You will have access to clinical supervision.
