A sub-tropical island of spectacular and beautiful landscapes in the South Atlantic with a warm and friendly population of 4,500, St Helena is a self-governing overseas territory of the UK. It’s now poised for transformation with the recent opening of a brand new international airport offering scheduled commercial air access. The island’s community mental health team is supported by resident medical officers with remote support and annual visits from a Europe-based Consultant Psychiatrist.
In collaboration with the clinical psychologist, educational psychologist, teachers and children’s social worker you will create a comprehensive approach to child and adolescent mental health care planning and delivery. With the support and supervision of the psychiatric clinic’s medical officer you will manage patients in the community, residential care and during hospital admissions.
You must ensure the workplace is a stimulating learning environment, training and mentoring in classroom and clinical areas, supervising learners and other care providers and mentoring student nurses.
Conducting anxiety management and depression courses, you will develop and implement a mental health promotion and prevention programme, including public talks, suicide prevention, and self-help groups. You will also help to run a mental health consultation and assessment service to other sectors including Education, Safeguarding, Learning Disability and the Prison Service. Providing enhanced nursing practice such as CBT you will advise on child protection issues and give evidence in court.
A UK Registered Level 1 Mental Health Nurse or equivalent, you shave significant post registration experience including community psychiatric care, with a Children & Adolescents Mental Health Service background.
