Job Description

In response to the Grenfell tragedy in West London, we are expanding our service within existing schools and offering support to new schools and children’s centres in the vicinity.  We are working alongside other agencies to provide expert counselling and mental health support for children, young people, parents and school staff both immediately, and in the months and years to come. This includes emergency drop-in services and full time intensive support.

This is sensitive, demanding and fulfilling work.  You will require experience, compassion and resilience to work in schools and children’s centres to help support and nurture vulnerable children, young people and families to help the community heal and rebuild after this devastating event.

To be successful in the role you will need;

  • A Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or equivalent
  • To have completed a relevant training course in clinical supervision
  • Experience working within other agencies or part of a multidisciplinary service
  • Experience of using a range of assessment techniques with children and young people
  • Strong communication and influencing skills at all levels

Place2Be is the leading children's mental health charity providing in-school support and expert professional development to improve the emotional wellbeing of children and young people, families, teachers and school staff.

Place2Be provides children’s mental health services in over 280 primary and secondary schools, and last year provided in-depth training in a further 31 schools, reaching a total school population of over 135,000 pupils. Our teams provide a range of services in our partner schools to build resilience early in life through counselling, creative work and play and support a child’s ability to engage in school life.  Our work, focused on early intervention, is part of the ‘comprehensive CAMHS system’.

Through our professional development programme, we are training c1200 volunteer counsellors each year who build their mental health and counselling skills and experience through practice in our partner schools. We also provide a range of professional development programmes on mental health and wellbeing for school leaders, teachers and other professionals who work with children and young people, so we can help to build ‘mentally healthy’ schools and communities where all children can thrive and flourish.

We ask our staff team to share our core values of perseverance, integrity, compassion and creativity, and to have the skills and patience to support some of the UK’s most vulnerable children and families.
