The Western Health and Social Service Trust WHSCT covers the West of Northern Ireland with a population of approximately 300,000 people and employing approximately 12,000 staff making it the largest employer in the western area. 

Service expansion within WHSCT has created an exciting opportunity for a talented individual, with the creation of a new Consultant Psychologist role in our Forensic Adult Mental Health and Intellectual Disability services within the WHSCT. The Forensic Service has been determined by the Regional Care Pathway and Model for Forensic Teams (2011) within Northern Ireland

The successful candidate will hold leadership responsibility for the development of psychological approaches within the Forensic service and in the delivery of high quality psychological assessment, formulations, consultations and interventions across the Forensic Adult Mental Health and Intellectual Disability services. The successful candidate will carry a clinical caseload within a defined area of the service.

We expect the postholder to have expertise in working with forensic clients with mental health needs and also with clients who have an intellectual disability and mental health and forensic needs. Furthermore, we would hope that the successful candidate can demonstrate a strong record of providing psychological assessments and interventions to people with high levels of complex needs in a range of settings.

The successful candidate will have an established base of experience in leading others and supporting innovation and the development of sustainable services. There will be strong links between the postholder and other psychologists within the Trust Adult Psychological Therapy Service, Personality Disorder Service and Intellectual Disability Service. There is a culture of support for the development of clinical interests and expertise, and for research and innovation and staff are encouraged to make use of training opportunities within the Trust and beyond.
