Contract Type: Permanent

Job Description

The Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN) at King’s College London (KCL), is Europe’s premier institution for research and education in mental health and neuroscience. We have nearly 300 academic staff, and an annual turnover of nearly £130m, with a research turnover of more than £60m and a thriving PhD and early career community. Research is interdisciplinary both within the IoPPN and across the whole of KCL and encompasses small to large scale projects within Europe and worldwide in its Global Mental Health programme.

We are now looking for a new Head of our Psychology Department. The department has some 40 academic staff across two campuses and is a well-integrated community of researchers and clinicians. It has seen a significant growth in recent years, mainly due to the very successful launch of a new and innovative UG Psychology programme in 2015. Reporting into the Vice Dean, Professor Til Wykes, the new Head of Department will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the department and will be expected to provide leadership in the context of growth and expansion.  The new head of department will sit on the Institute Management Board and the Divisional Executive.

Candidates will have experience of academic leadership and have a strong research profile in a relevant area (clinical or applied research) with significant grant income of their own.  They may or may not be clinicians. They must understand the whole spectrum of Psychology, and have a good sense of how the NHS operates. They will ideally be of professorial standing upon appointment. Candidates must demonstrate well-honed communication skills with the ability to bring people together.

This is an opportunity for an ambitious individual to have an impact on the future of a large and growing, highly prestigious academic department.
