Lecturer in Forensic Clinical Psychology – 55855

School of Psychology

Part Time: 60%

Full time starting salary is normally in the range £39,993 to £47,722. With potential progression once in post to £53,690 a year

The School of Psychology aims to recruit to a post in forensic-clinical psychology that will develop and support the innovative combined Forensic Clinical Doctorate in Psychology.  This is a unique doctorate that enables trainees who qualify to register as both a Forensic and Clinical Psychologist with the British Psychological Society and the Health and Care Professions Council. The programme is four years in duration and the first graduates completed the course in 2017. We also had an accreditation visit in 2017 by the BPS and are accredited until 2022/23.

The successful candidate will be expected to have a qualification recognised by the HCPC and BPS in either clinical or forensic psychology (or ideally both).  Successful applicants will also be expected to work on postgraduate and CPD programmes as appropriate to the forensic and clinical disciplinary areas, providing leadership in teaching in the subject and to contribute to the management, leadership and enterprise activities of the School of Psychology and the Centre for Applied Psychology.  They will also be expected to support the development and management of Clinical and Forensic placements in practice.  While the post is teaching focussed it will involve significant amounts of supervision of trainee research.  The post would particularly suit someone who wishes to combine an academic post with continuing practice and we have excellent links with the local NHS and voluntary sector provider organisations if the applicant wishes to combine this post with sessions in practice.

The post will be based in the Centre for Applied Psychology at the University of Birmingham.  The centre is a new initiative that brings together all of the applied groups within the School of Psychology and provides an exciting opportunity to develop and integrate applied psychology within the school. This will provide excellent systems for support and development for the successful candidate.

The University of Birmingham is an equal opportunities employer and we welcome applications from currently under-represented groups. The School of Psychology has a Bronze Athena SWAN award. It strives to be a flexible and supportive environment that enables all of its staff to flourish.
