Job Description
Agenda for Change Band 6 (entry at Spine point 21, £27,635)
This one year MSc is provided in an innovative partnership between NHS Education Scotland, the University of Edinburgh and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. It is a taught masters programme that trains psychology graduates to become competent practitioners in psychological assessment and interventions with children, young people and families presenting with mild to moderate emotional and behavioural difficulties, within an early intervention framework. This programme offers a combination of academic and clinical skills teaching with a full year clinical placement in a Scottish NHS Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service. Successful applicants will be employed as a Trainee Clinical Associate in Applied Psychology for one year in a Scottish NHS board. Completion of the MSc will allow graduates to apply for Clinical Associate in Applied Psychology (Children and Young People) posts. The next intake to the programme will be February 2019.
Applicants will have the Graduate Basis for Chartership with the British Psychological Society and an Honours degree in Psychology (2:1 or above), or equivalent BPS recognised MSc conversion qualification. Successful applicants will have demonstrable knowledge of relevant psychological theories and models for working with children, young people and their families, as well as an interest in this area. Applicants should be able to reflect on any work/voluntary experience in relation to the role of a Trainee Clinical Associate working with these groups as well as a knowledge of Early Intervention approaches. Knowledge or experience of relevant areas such as education, social care or health care settings may be advantageous. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
The programme received BPS accreditation in 2017 as an Applied Psychology Programme for Assistant and Associate Psychologists. The programme has also applied to the BABCP for Level 1 course accreditation.
