37 hours per week
£29,947 to £34,478 per annum (plus £700 on call allowance)
Action for Children exists to make children’s lives better: now, tomorrow and every day. With that in mind, we have developed a Multi-Systemic Therapy (MST) service across the county of Essex. MST is an evidence-based intervention that works with young people with anti-social behaviour, and their families, to prevent out-of-home placement. Our service is passionate about delivering high-quality intervention to young people and their families, in order to achieve positive life outcomes for these young people. As an MST therapist, you will give parents the skills to manage and change their child’s behaviour. At the same time, you will take your skills to the next level, with the help of our specialist training.
You will be part of a team of four therapists, plus a supervisor, and carry a caseload of 4-5 families. You will work intensively with your families, as well as attend school meetings and other professional meetings. The need to work flexibly to best meet the needs of families is an important element of the service, and some evening work will be required. You will also participate in an on-call rota, providing support to families when they are in crisis.
You will have weekly group supervision to discuss your caseload and support you in adhering to the MST model. You will use cognitive behaviour therapy, behavioural interventions and structural family therapy to get results, working alongside health and education services.
We are committed to supporting our team of therapists and will offer you continued professional development through both internal and external training, e.g. CBT training. You will also receive full training in the MST model when you join, as well as receive quarterly booster training from an MST expert.
What you’ll need:
- A professional qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, Family ‘therapy, cognitive behaviour Therapy or Mental Health Nursing.
- Applicants from Individuals with a related undergraduate degree and significant clinical experience in treating serious antisocial behaviour in young people are also welcome.
- A car driver is essential.
- Relocation expenses are available.
