How we work:

Action for Children does what’s right, does what’s needed and does what works for children in the UK. Every year, our team changes the lives of 370,000 children, young people and families.

Here at Action for Children, we have developed a Multi-Systemic Therapy (MST) service across the county of Essex. MST is an evidence-based intervention that works with young people with anti-social behaviour, and their families, to prevent out-of-home placement.

Our service is passionate about delivering high-quality intervention to young people and their families, in order to achieve positive life outcomes for these young people. We are committed to supporting our team of therapists and you will receive full training in the MST model when you join, as well as receive quarterly booster training from an MST expert and weekly supervision. This is a Fixed-term contract working until 31/12/2018.

How you’ll make a difference:

By being part of a team of four therapists, plus a supervisor, and carrying a caseload of 4-5 families. You will work intensively with your families, as well as attend school meetings and other professional meetings.

By working flexibly to best meet the needs of families, some evening work will be required.  You will also participate in an on-call rota, providing support to families when they are in crisis.

By working alongside parents to increase their skills and confidence to manage and change their child's behaviour. At the same time, you will take your skills to the next level, with the help of our specialist training.

By having weekly group supervision to discuss your caseload and support you in adhering to the MST model.  You will use cognitive behaviour therapy, behavioural interventions and structural family therapy to get results, working alongside Social care and education services.

What you’ll need:

  • An undergraduate degree in psychology, nursing or social work plus significant clinical experience in treating serious antisocial behaviour in young people.
  • Post graduate training in CBT or Family Therapy
  • A car driver is essential.
  • Relocation expenses are available.
