MST Therapist (Clin Psych, RMN, Family Therapy, Social Worker)
MST – Problem Sexual Behaviour
We are looking for an enthusiastic, flexible professional who wants to work in a specialist nationally unique community service for adolescents with problem sexual behaviour and their families
MST PSB (Multi-Systemic Therapy for Problem Sexual Behaviour) is a clinical adaptation of MST that has been specifically designed and developed to treat young people aged 10-17 with problem or harmful sexual behaviour, that puts them at risk of an out-of-home placement. The model represents a state-of-the-art, evidence based practice to address the multiple determinants underlying problem sexual behaviour in young people. The programme provides intensive home-based family interventions and also draws on models of parent training, cognitive behavioural therapy and social skills building to focus on the aspects of the young person’s ecology that are related to the harmful sexual behaviour.
We welcome applications from clinical psychologists, registered mental health nurses, social workers and family therapists to join our team as a MST-PSB Therapist. Applicants should have significant experience in working directly with young people and families, using a range of evidence-based models, including systemic, CBT and behavioural approaches. The service takes referrals from within Cambridgeshire, and neighbouring local authorities, and appointments take place in family’s own homes; as such, being a car driver is an essential component of the post. The service also offers a 24/7 on-call service to families, and you would be expected to contribute to this. You will be enrolled on a five-day training course for MST, plus additional training related to the PSB role.
The service within Cambridgeshire has been running for over six years, and the team has extensive experience in working with this client group. You can expect to develop your therapeutic skills in working with families, and in applying interventions that target the multiple drivers to harmful sexual behaviour, under the guidance of your supervisor and MST consultant. You will be part of an energetic team, who are committed to achieving positive life outcomes for the young people that we work with.
Family Psychology Mutual. Two MST teams have spun out from the Local Authority to become a non-profit social enterprise which is owned by the staff, who are all shareholders. We have an initial 3-year contract that funds the MST PSB team, with spot-purchasing from other neighbouring authorities. The post holder will be employed by Family Psychology Mutual. Access to the NHS pension scheme is being negotiated for eligible applicants. This is an exciting time of development with new opportunities for the company to expand to other Evidence Based Practices, and we have already set up a Functional Family Therapy Team in London. There will be some contractual meetings with relevant commissioners. The team is based in a newly acquired office building in Huntingdon.
Enquiries should be directed to Shonagh Slattery, MST PSB Supervisor, on 07914 670262 or Sarah Reeves, Consultant Clinical Psychologist, MST Programme Manager on 07914 670260.
