This is an exciting opportunity to use and develop your skill set, both in working with complex presenting problems and in risk management and safety planning. MST PSB is a well-researched community based family intervention directed at young people whose sexually harmful behaviour may be putting them at risk at the edge of care or custody. MST PSB is a clinical adaptation of MST for anti-social behaviour and is an intensive home based service. The MST PSB team in Cambridgeshire is developed and well-established service, having been operational since 2012. The service operates in Cambridgeshire and with neighbouring authorities who also commission places. The service will also offer a limited amount of standard MST. The post holder will be supported clinically and managerially by the MST Clinical Director, who is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Family Therapist. The MST team has national links with the other MST teams in England. MST is a widely recognised and NICE recommended evidence-based programme, delivering significantly enhanced outcomes for children and families.
You will make assessments and lead the 4 MST PSB Therapists in devising action-focussed interventions to create positive changes for families with the aim of reducing harmful behaviours and out of home placements. You will be delivering pragmatic systemic work with families and cognitive behavioral interventions as well as working with the complex professional and community networks often surrounding these families with multiple problems. You will actively manage risks with your team and be ready to take responsibility for clinical outcomes within clear lines of accountability. You will have a high degree of flexibility in your working week, as there is a requirement for out of hour’s on-call for the Therapists with this post. The team has some business support. Alongside the MST PSB Supervisor role, you will occasionally act as backup Supervisor for the MST team for young people on the edge of care or custody.
Family Psychology Mutual and partnerships
The 2 MST teams have spun out from the Local Authority to become a non-profit social enterprise which is owned by the staff, who are all shareholders. We have an initial 3-year contract. The post holder will be employed by Family Psychology Mutual. Access to the NHS pension scheme is being negotiated for eligible applicants. This is an exciting time of development with new opportunities for the company to expand to other Evidence Based Practices and we are already expanding. There will be some contractual meetings with relevant commissioners. You will work very closely with the UK MST Network who have allocated an expert to the team to support the quality assurance and work towards achieving high adherence to the treatment model. The team will be based in a newly acquired office building in Huntingdon. You will be supported by the previous post holder who will be line managing this post and who will act as the backup Supervisor. With 5 years’ experience in this specialist field she will offer significant training and support as she moves to her new role with FPM.
You will need to be a qualified clinical or applied psychologist or family therapist with experience working systemically or have worked within the child and adolescent field with appropriate registration. Your continuing professional development will be supported throughout, as the company expands and with immediate initial training in the MST PSB methodology. The company has established a Functional Family Therapy team in London and expects further growth.
