St Andrew’s is a charity commissioned by the NHS to provide specialist mental healthcare for people with some of the most complex and challenging mental health needs in the UK. St Andrew’s Birmingham is a 128 bedded adult mental healthcare facility, located in Stirchley, Birmingham and comprises of eight units which cover medium and low security. Six of the wards provide services for Men, the remaining two low secure wards provide services for Men with Autistic Spectrum Disorder and Women respectively. We are currently transforming the Charity and are introducing Integrated Practice Units ( IPU's) as the vehicle to deliver 'Value Based Healthcare'. This will ensure our patients consistently get the best possible outcomes and local teams gain more control and responsibility.
Your role with us
This post is offered as a 9 month fixed term contract to cover maternity leave.
We are looking to appoint a qualified Principal Clinical or Forensic Psychologist who has experience of this complex and challenging population and has skills and experience relevant to forensic mental health. You will have experience in supervision, leadership and training and practical knowledge of structured professional judgement risk assessments, with the ability to communicate complex and at times sensitive information in an accessible and respectful way.
Psychology is highly valued within the service and embedded within a multi-disciplinary approach. This role will suit a person-centred and ambitious individual with skills in engaging people in their recovery; delivering evidence-based group and individual psychological therapies; working collaboratively with core MDT members including psychiatrists, nurses, occupational therapists and social workers.
The successful applicant will join an experienced psychology team including Consultant Clinical Psychologists, Forensic Psychologists, Clinical Psychologists, a Drama Therapist, Art Therapist and Assistant Psychologists. The Department has close links with the University of Birmingham training courses. The successful applicant can look forward to receiving good support and supervision and participation in continued professional development is encouraged.
The position is offered on a full time 37.5 hours per week basis, however, 0.8WTE applicants will be considered.
