Psychologists are a highly valued asset in multi discipline working and essential to patient assessment and treatment and to support the MDT. St Andrew’s are renowned for delivering inpatient treatment to patients in medium secure, low secure and locked environments. We also have four Psychiatric Intensive Care Units, two in Northampton (female and male) and two units in Essex (female and male).
We are currently seeking an HCPC registered Principal Psychologist (eligible for BPS Chartership) to join our experienced and specialist team in the Men’s and Women’s Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Northampton. Above all, we value dedicated patient care and teamwork. The patient is at the heart of what we do. We want you to emphasise direct and indirect contact with patients; using your clinical skills to formulate, consult with staff, support stabilisation, engage and provide suitable interventions to patients to speed their progress through the PICU.
We want you to work within the framework of NICE and other relevant guidelines as well as using emerging evidence to develop and provide innovative and patient centred interventions that maximise the effectiveness of patient treatment. The post holder will have excellent team working skills, who are innovative and able to motivate and influence staff effectively and will be required to have a strong emphasis on staff training needs and also family and carer involvement.
Your role will be full time, but split between our Women’s and Men’s PICU wards on our Northampton site. As a Principal you will work closely with your psychology colleague in Essex and lead on the development and implementation of the model of psychological assessment, treatment and consultation within the PICU’s. To support you in your role, you will have the provision of a Senior Assistant Psychologists to work with you across both units.
