Job Title:              Psychological Wellbeing Clinical Lead

Reports to:           Head of Psychological Wellbeing

Based at:              Help for Heroes, Tedworth House, Tidworth, Wiltshire, SP9 7AJ

Job Purpose


Providing the over-arching clinical support to the H4H Psychological Wellbeing network to ensure consistency of service across the centres, a professional and clinically managed network, and best practice that will provide effective, professionally delivered psychological services to our beneficiaries.






  • Effective and efficient management of the Psychological Wellbeing Teams

  • Ensuring each member of the network is adhering to delivery frameworks therefore ensuring best practice is delivered across the

psychological wellbeing network throughout the centres

  • Effective relationship building on a national level with MoD, NHS and other organisations involved in mental health support to our beneficiaries
  • Identifying the need for and providing clinical support and supervision where required across the network
  • Supporting Head of Psychological Wellbeing in their strategic development of the H4H psychological service
  • Determining training and CPD requirements for the psychological wellbeing network
  • Develop a collaborative and well communicating collaborative psychological wellbeing network across all the centres


Main Responsibilities

  • The Clinical Lead will be integral to the running of the overall psychological network and will therefore both deputise for and support the Head of Psychological Wellbeing by managing clinical risk of the teams, maintaining standards of delivery and disseminating information from both a top down and a bottom up perspective.
  • The role will also involve supporting the Head of Psychological Wellbeing to develop the service and specific projects across the centres in a proactive and directional manner to ensure the service offering continues to grow in line with the needs of the beneficiaries.
  • This will also therefore include liaising with external organisations and agencies to continue developing the collaborative relationship across the landscape of psychological support for veterans, to ensure H4H continues to work effectively within this landscape.
  • The network consists of 4 x Psychological Wellbeing Teams (PWTs) based in the four H4H Recovery Centres, therefore the role will also include clinical direction and support in their day to day duties both remotely and face to face.

Supporting and Managing the Psychological Wellbeing Network:

Managing and containing clinical risk throughout the network, with clear safeguarding responsibility, providing expertise for whole of H4H, whilst also deputising for Caldicott role, when and where appropriate

Driving a collaborative sharing forum between the centres

Identifying, delivering and organising clinical supervision across the centres where required (on top of standard supervision)

Assessing, managing and resolving enquiries, issues and complaints from the Psychological Wellbeing teams across the centres to feed into the Head of Psychological Wellbeing

Continuing to assess the processes/delivery frameworks throughout the psychological well-being network

Ensuring CPD and training for the members of the Psychological Wellbeing network is in place and is attended


Contributing to the development and delivery of relevant workshops with the Head of Psychological Wellbeing

Delivering supervision where required

Supporting the Head of Psychological Wellbeing:

Due to the strategic nature of the role of Head of Psychological Wellbeing, the Clinical Manager will also support in areas such as:

Liaising and collaborating with other health care professionals and other mental health specific organisations as potential partners/referral streams

Developing, reviewing and evaluating the frameworks of delivery across the centres

Providing input to the grants team for psychological related grant requests

Proactively finding and sharing relevant developments and research in the field to the Head of Psychological Wellbeing and the Psychological Wellbeing network

Evaluating the performance of the Psychological Wellbeing network members in relation to clinical competence and ability to adhere to best practice and feeding back to the Head of Psychological Wellbeing

Attending interviews and performance reviews where required

Developing external and internal information sharing/comms/media of mental health related developments that H4H are delivering

To coordinate and evaluate other therapeutic interventions e.g. workshops and programs and promote as appropriate

Help develop and implement new psychological initiatives with families and couples

Essential Qualifications:

  • Accredited therapist of a credible psychological body such as BACP, BPS, BABCP, UKCP
  • Supervisory qualifications

Essential Knowledge, Skills & Experience


  • Demonstrable management experience
  • Experience and have a working knowledge of PTSD and the most common mental health issues for this client group
  • Ability to assess Psychological Health issues
  • Understanding of the military ethos and community
  • Advocacy skills
  • Case management and supervision
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Desirable Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Experience of the full holistic and experiential approach to psychological wellbeing
  • Knowledge and experience of Military and NHS mental health service provision and agencies, including referral procedures
  • Full driving licence
  • A Qualified Psychologist for around 5 – 7 years’ experience desirable.
