Job Description

Psychologist Grade II

The Irish Prison Service (IPS) Psychology Service forms part of the Care and Rehabilitation Directorate within the IPS, which also includes Healthcare, Psychiatry, Addiction Services, Education, Work and Training, Employment, Chaplaincy and Resettlement Services. The prison population is a community within our broader community, and therefore the IPS Psychology Service provides a range of primary, secondary and tertiary care psychological services in adherence with the principle of equivalence of care. Psychologists appointed to posts in the Irish Prison Service will have an opportunity to work with clients who are experiencing a wide range of emotional, mental health and other offence related difficulties.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team within the 14 penal establishments across the country, the Psychologist Grade II will carry out appropriate psychological assessments with their client group, formulating and implementing psychological therapeutic intervention as appropriate.

Candidates must on or before the closing date:

(a) be eligible for graduate membership of the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI) or the British Psychological Society (BPS).

and

(b) (i) hold a postgraduate professional qualification in Clinical Psychology recognised by PSI. (Applicants with qualifications obtained outside of Ireland must obtain a statement of equivalence in Clinical Psychology from the Department of Health);

or

(ii) hold a postgraduate professional qualification in Counselling Psychology recognised by PSI. (Applicants with qualifications obtained outside of Ireland must obtain a statement of equivalence in Counselling Psychology from the Department of Health);

or

(iii) hold a recognised postgraduate qualification in Forensic Psychology and have obtained Chartered Forensic status from the British Psychological Society.

Organisational/ Occupational Psychologist,

Grade II

The Irish Prison Service (IPS) is seeking to recruit an Organisational/ Occupational Psychologist for the Irish Prison Service College in Portlaoise.

Reporting to the Head of Learning and Development, the successful candidate will also work closely with members of staff and the Corporate Services Directorate. S/he will have responsibility for the coordination, design, delivery and evaluation of training in the areas of leadership & management development, coaching, group dynamics, staff mental health, wellbeing and resilience, critical incident stress management, conflict management, performance management, induction and IPSC pedagogy. In addition, the successful candidate will have experience in performance management, mediation and induction/on-boarding in a complex organisation.

Applicants must also hold a Masters Degree (Level 9 on the National Framework of Qualifications) in Organisational/Occupational PsychologyFramework of Qualifications) in Organisational/Occupational Psychology.
