£41,401 - £46,374 p.a. FTE, according to experience
Start date: 31st January 2017. Fixed term contract to 30th January 2019
Part-time, 24 hpw (Mon to Wed)
The Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families supports distressed children and their families through innovative therapeutic practice and research, training and promoting awareness of mental health issues.
The AFC runs an assessment and treatment day programme for families where there is a parent with Personality Disorder/difficulties with a child or children under five on the edge of care. The day programme, known as the Early Years Parenting Unit (EYPU), has up to ten families in treatment at any one time, and if successfully engaged, families stay in the programme for 18 months. The treatment programme is based on a mentalization approach, addressing parents’ personality difficulties, parenting problems and the child’s development. The programme involves families attending our multi-family day unit in Islington on two days a week, with an intervening day for the team to conduct outreach work, liaise with the professional network and receive supervision.
This is an exciting and innovative treatment programme and is the first of its kind. The treatment has been manualised and is available to services in other areas of the country that may wish to replicate this.
The AFC is looking to appoint a clinician with direct experience of working with parents with complex needs and under-5’s. The post-holder will need to be an experienced clinician, not necessarily trained in Mentalization-Based Therapy, though a sound understanding of the model is important.
You will play an important role in running this innovative early intervention day programme. Joining a dedicated team (a Clinical Manager, two other clinicians and two Project Leads at the AFC), you will also be involved in developing training for dissemination.
An experienced clinician with good group skills, you should also be a strong creative thinker - able to work well collaboratively to ensure the successful delivery of this new project.
The employer for the post is the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families, the post-holder will be based at the EYPU in Islington, North London.
The Centre values diversity and aims to have a workforce that reflects this. We encourage applications from all sections of the community.
